Caring for a child with neurological, physical, or cognitive needs can be challenging and stressful for parents and guardians. Even a short break can have a huge impact on mental and emotional well-being, helping parents recharge and renew their energy. At The Sensory Zone, we believe self-care and stress management are essential. Families in our Respite Care Program can choose between 1 to 3 hours of care per day, offering the flexibility to fit their specific needs.
What Is Respite Care?
Child respite care provides short-term relief for parents and caregivers of children with special needs or unique challenges. It gives children a safe, caring space where they can enjoy supervised activities, play, and personalized support. This service helps prevent caregiver burnout and improves the well-being of both the child and family by giving caregivers time to recharge and take care of themselves.
Our Services
1:1 Respite
At The Sensory Zone, we offer personalized one-on-one child respite care sessions lasting 1-3 hours. These sessions provide a supportive and nurturing environment tailored to each child's individual needs. Our trained staff ensure a safe and engaging experience, incorporating sensory activities and therapeutic interventions to promote relaxation and well-being.

Group Respite (1:3 Respite)
The Sensory Zone provides group child respite care sessions with a ratio of 1 staff member to 3 children, lasting 2-5 hours. Our structured and inclusive environment offers supervised activities tailored to each child's needs, promoting social interaction, sensory exploration, and fun. We aim to create enriching experiences that foster growth, enjoyment, and a sense of belonging for every child in our care.

Our engaging schedules and structured activities ensure that every visit is enriching and fulfilling. Whether it's sensory exploration sessions, interactive storytelling, or creative arts and crafts, each activity is designed to stimulate creativity and foster social interaction.
Hangout Buddies
At the Sensory Zone, our respite workers, known as "Hangout Buddies," are dedicated to engaging children in one-on-one and small group activities. These passionate staff members and volunteers have the unique opportunity to build meaningful connections, foster social skills, and create a supportive environment where every child feels valued and understood. Through their commitment, they help ensure that each visit to the Sensory Zone is a positive and enriching experience for both the children and their families. Hangout Buddies undergo thorough training in pediatric mental health, coping skills, and effective engagement with children who have diverse abilities.
Excursions
The Sensory Zone ventures into the community on fun excursions with our respite kiddos on the weekends! Select Saturdays and Sundays, families can sign their child up for a 4-hour time slot during which staff from The Sensory Zone will hang out with the children at a local fun opportunity. All excursions are included in the cost of respite care — transportation to and from excursions provided. Non-expired car seats or boosters are required and must be provided by the family. All respite kids going on excursions will need to have a completed excursion permission slip on file.
